Tour I: Bavaria

First day: Wednesday, 23 June

After the trip from Cologne to Freising (Upper Bavaria), the participants will be welcomed at the ISTA Seed Testing Station of the Bavarian State Research Center of Agriculture. Subsequently to a guided tour through the laboratories, we will have a typical Bavarian lunch (Bavarian veal sausages, pretzels and wheat beer). A visit of a Bavarian Plant Breeding Station Steinach (grasses, large-grained and small-grained legumes) in Lower Bavaria will take place in the afternoon, followed by a joined dinner. The first overnight stay will be nearby Regensburg, a city on the river Danube in Upper Palatinate founded by the Romans 2000 years ago. After dinner a guided tour through the city at night will be offered to the participants. A guided tour through the city at night will be offered to the participants.

Second day: Thursday, 24 June

In Niedertraubling we will visit the oldest Bavarian Plant Breeding Station Bauer (wheat, barley, oat) founded in 1863. Nearby in Obertraubling a highly sophisticated seed processing facility will be attended. After lunch we will have a trip to Teisendorf, a little village in the northern pre-alpine region where the Bavarian forest tree seed testing and breeding station of the Bavarian State Ministry of Nutrition, Agriculture and Forestry is located. After guidance through the laboratories, participants can enjoy the Bavarian hospitality by a traditional Bavarian meal in an impressive and marvelous mountain scenery, accompanied by typical Bavarian folk music. The second overnight staywill be nearby Chiemsee.

Third day: Friday, 25 June

On the third day, participants can freely dispose of their time. They can make a trip to Chiemsee, where the famous Bavarian fairytale King Ludwig II. has built a beautiful castle on an island in the middle of the lake. The wonderful mountain scenery will also invite the participants to a walking-tour.

Return journey: by bus to Munich airport (arrival time: 18:00), Frankfurt airport (arrival time: 22:00) and Cologne-Bonn airport. Final destination is Cologne (arrival time: 24:00).
